The annual Lawyers’ Assistance Program (LAP) Joseph R. Bartylak Dinner was a great success and, once again, a “who’s who” of the Downstate legal community. The event, held at the Sangamo Club in Springfield on Friday, April 8th, was attended by legal professionals from throughout the state. Judge John Gorman (retired) received the Joseph R. Bartylak Award for his many years of service to the LAP. Judge Gorman is especially respected for his unwavering commitment to helping his colleagues in the legal profession since LAP’s very early days over 30 years ago. Matthew Huttmacher was also honored; he received the President’s Award in recognition for his many years of service on LAP’s Board of Directors. The pinnacle of the evening was Supreme Court Justice Rita B. Garman’s keynote speech. Justice Garman highlighted the serious issues of depression, anxiety and addiction that plague lawyers, and encouraged all members of the legal profession to seek help, and to help others. If you are interested learning more about helping your colleagues, call 312-726 6607 to RSVP for the LAP Annual Training on June 3rd from 8:30-4:30PM at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington or at Loyola School of Law in Chicago (6 FREE MCLE credits).
